The number of payment cards including debit, credit, charge, and prepaid cards has risen 70 percent since 2009, according to the Central Bank. The compound annual growth rate was 7.8 percent.
Payment cards reached 2.76 million last year, registering 0.33 percent compared to 2015.
Grace Eid, Head of Retail Banking at Bank Audi, said: "The small growth achieved last year is because the Central bank issued a decree terminating the issuance of prepaid cards."
